A design duo: Francobolli Cards and Rossi1931

Francobolli (meaning stamps in Italian) Cards is a small line of cards designed by Italian born Angela Liguori of Studio Carta and bookbinder, Bari Zaki. It brings together a mutual interest and love of vintage stamps.

“Designed and handmade in our studio in Brookline, Massachusetts, each card displays a vintage (un-cancelled) US postage stamp, from the 60’s and 70’s that we carefully chose years ago for our line. Each stamp is related to the topic of the greeting card. The stamp is applied by hand and I do the calligraphy, individually on each card. We have a line for the holidays that it is very popular, but thank you cards and Anniversary, are the best sellers.”

Angela continues, “The paper used is Italy’s finest mould-made Rossi paper, with a matching envelope . We chose the Rossi paper because it is Italian, because it has the deckle edge and it is beautiful paper, very good for adding a touch of calligraphy to the cards. The black ink goes smoothly onto the texture of the paper. The paper reminds me of small shops in Italy that sell paper goods. I do the calligraphy on every single card. We sell the cards wholesale to various paper and gift boutiques in the US and they have been selling well in several shops, internationally. I also carry them in my shop in Brookline, and online.”

Studio Carta is an internationally recognized design studio, specializing in fine stationery and custom ribbons imported directly from Italy. The recipient of many awards and accolades, Angela Liguori and Studio Carta have been featured in such prestigious publications as Martha Stewart Living, Domino, and Design Sponge.
