32° North

You might think that a company with the name 32° north, which markets Christmas vintage ornaments and decorations, is synonymous with winter and snow , (as in, ‘ at 32 degrees rain turns to snow’ ). But that couldn’t be further from the truth. As a matter of fact the company is California based and 32 ° north is inspired by San Diego’s latitude, where the owners’ family has lived for several generations.

Founded in 2004, this grand (carrying approx. 6000 items) online store is a family run business based on a love of Christmas, holidays and the artful premise of creating things by hand. Here you can find the beauty of a world seemingly gone by…

They have gathered together a wide assortment of embossed European paper scraps and die-cuts; Dresden trims and foils from Germany; hand blown glass Christmas garland beads from the Czech Republic, as well as European blown glass ornaments ;  papier- mache eggs and balls for filling;  old stock ribbons and trims ; handmade vintage  millinery flowers and leaves; traditional gilded paper from  Italy; spun glass angel hair, a wide selection of traditional paper advent calendars from Germany and specialty supplies to enhance your everyday and holiday projects. They also design and create by hand, in house, at their Southern California studio, one of a kind or limited edition, vintage-inspired ornaments… in the noble tradition of Victorian craftsmen.

We asked the owners about what inspired them to create this seemingly one-of-a-kind store:

“In today’s fast-paced world of mass-produced items, we’ve always been drawn to unique pieces carefully handmade by skilled artisans who learned their craft from past generations, often using the same antique machinery, molds and tools.  32 Degrees North is our way of sharing these increasingly hard-to-find items, and the specialty supplies used to make them, with others who also have a passion for the handmade.”

“Whether someone wishes to find craft supplies to create their own keepsakes, add to their holiday ornament collection, or, of course, find pretty Italian paper with a beautiful time-honored design, we feel lucky to be a reliable source for a wide selection of really special things.”

“We have carried Rossi for over 7 years and every year look forward to seeing what beautiful new items will be introduced.
Many of our customers use Rossi papers in their creations and come to us for our wide offering of styles — we currently stock over 100 different Rossi papers! We also stock Rossi cards and stationery sets — they coordinate so beautifully with the papers and allow our customers to mix and match effortlessly.”

32 ° north is vintage Christmas… anyone who loves the aura of a European Christmas past will be amazed at this online shop. When asked about the obvious love of Christmas and what fostered the memories and vintage themes, we were told,

Christmas has always been the biggest celebration of the year and something planned for and looked forward to for many months in advance.   Our personal collections largely mirror the items we stock, with thoughtful craftsmanship and tradition as the common thread.  Although we live in California where temperatures rarely get below 50 degrees, we have always had a fondness for vintage and antique Christmas items, especially pieces from Europe, and delight in the joy brought by creating a winter wonderland.”

In addition to their amazing online store at www.vintage-ornaments.com  (which is the main place to shop with them for the widest range of products), they have had an Etsy store since 2008. Over 51,000 customers have rated the store 5 stars!

“Our Etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/32NorthSupplies , also stocks a wide range of craft supplies as well as select items we come across that are only available in very limited quantities.”

The unbelievable thing about these 2 online stores is that they house and ship over 6,000 items!

“ Our favorite things about 32 Degrees North are handling the beautiful items we get to stock, the kind and creative people we meet and work with (both customers and vendors alike) and that, for us in some ways, it’s Christmas year round.”

“We have been admirers of Rossi for many years and can’t remember a time when Rossi stationery wasn’t on our own desks as we regularly purchased cards and stationery sets for ourselves long before we became stockists.”

“Rossi is a fantastic company to work with: exquisite products, impeccable quality, and attentive and professional representatives.  We are especially fond of the decorative sheet papers — trends come and go but Rossi’s classic designs are elegant, traditional and timeless all at once.”

“The decorative papers with gold highlights are best sellers, especially the Florentines like “Birds, Florentine Style” and ‘Traditional, Florentine Style’, which customers use for everything from lining envelopes to decoupage furniture to creating custom wrapping for soaps.”

One of the things that truly sets 32° North apart from most online retailers is that they offer craft project tutorials ( using their unique supplies) on their website:
